From Jennifer L. Armentrout, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of From Blood and Ash, comes a searing fantasy romance for adults, Fall of Ruin and Wrath. Long ago, the world was destroyed by gods. Only nine cities were spared. Separated by vast wilderness teeming with monsters and unimaginable dangers, each city is now ruled by a guardian—royalty who feed on mortal pleasure. Born with an intuition that never fails, Calista knows her talents are of great value to the power-hungry of the world, so she lives hidden as a courtesan of the Baron of Archwood. In exchange for his protection, she grants him information. When her intuition leads her to save a traveling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning—and promise. Today he’ll bring her joy. One day he'll be her doom. When the Baron takes an interest in the traveling prince and the prince takes an interest in Calista, she becomes the prince’s temporary companion. But the city simmers with rebellion, and with knights and monsters at her city gates and a hungry prince in her bed, intuition may not be enough to keep her safe. Calista must choose: follow her intuition to safety or follow her heart to her downfall. Breathtaking suspense and scorching romance meet in this immersive new fantasy from a mega-bestselling force, Jennifer L. Armentrout.

"This was my 1st book by this author. While I found it a little romantsy heavy it was very captivating. Definitely eagerly anticipating the next book in the series."

"Calista lives in a world of low born(humans) and Hyhborn (similar to gods). She has a gift of intuition that other humans do not. To keep herself and her gift hidden from the Hyhborn, she acts as a courtesan for a Baron who takes good care of her. While staying there she runs into a Hyhborn and the two can’t help but be drawn to each other.

If you’re looking for your next spicy romantasy read, this book is for you!

I did not enjoy this as much as FBAA and ASITE. It did start to pick up for me towards the end and I absolutely will be reading the second book. This story to me was more of something to read if you want your spicy scenes from beginning to end. If that’s your thing, read this book!

And also JLA I hate you for this cliffhanger"
"As suspected, I enjoyed this book very much. I love the Blood and Ash series she is still writing and I had a feeling I would enjoy this just as much.

Spice? Yes
Death? Yes
Magic? Yes
Strange mythical creatures? Yes
Hot morally grey immortal men? Yes

This story follows Calista (Lis) who is a lowborn orphan and knows nothing of her parents or lineage. The closest person she has as family is her best friend Grady. They lived at an orphan refuge together at a young age that was run by a cruel man. One night after two Hyborn Deminyen lords (immortal beings made by the earth and not “born”) went there looking for starborn children. When one of the lords noticed that Calista was hurt and it was at the hand of the cruel man who ran the shelter, he was punished for his actions. She did not let them know that she can read peoples thoughts/intentions and sometimes see their future and have visions of things to come. Usually the visions are of something tragic. She didn’t know what starborn people were or if they had powers like she did. Since she didn’t have the telltale mark of a starborn, they left her alone and once they left she and Grady ran away and took care of themselves

They lived on the run steeling and doing whatever they could for food and shelter but moved often when people realized what Calista could do. Until one day when Calista was 16 and her gifts helped the Baron of Archwood Manor. Knowing how rare her gift was, they moved into his manor and she became one of his personal and favorite paramours. Only a few people who lived there knew of her gifts and it served the Baron well for many years.

Now that Calista is 22, she lives a comfortable life with the Baron. She cannot however help the pull she has when she gets a premonition. Her gift brought her to the aid of a hurt Hyborn Deminyen lord. This lord is more than he seems and so is she, but neither of them realize that fate keeps bringing them together.

I’m extremely frustrated that I decided to read this book when it is the first of a series and the next book does not have a release date. This story is somewhat similar to the Ash and Blood series from the same author and honestly that isn’t a bad thing for me because I LOVE that series.

A strong willed young woman who is brave and wants to help people that doesn’t know her families past or where her abilities came from like Poppy. A strong almost immortal man who is basically invincible with just a few ways to hurt him. He will do anything to make sure she is unscathed. Similar to Casteel from Blood and Ash, and also is amused by her temper. The powers that Poppy has differ from Calista but both are in the dark about who they are and what they can do.

This book also is set in a time where people don’t all have access to more modern comforts, but the rich does have access to hot running water.

Calista and Thorne’s connection is still very new and the book just started to talk about what they are to each other towards the end. The next book I’m sure will be very interesting because the author will not only give more details of that, but most likely will give more information as to where Calista’s powers come from and what she can actually do. The cliffhanger also showed a very interesting thing that Thorne can do that was not mentioned earlier in the book .
So many questions!!!"
