"This book was so good and went so much deeper than I expected. Leah is such an amazing character and I really felt her struggles and emotions throughout the novel. Eli was such a sweetheart, misguided at times, but still sweet. I adored the friend group that surrounded Eli (and then Leah) and how authentic their interactions were. Even though this is a romance, Leah and Eli both have growth throughout the story and this book also highlights the foster care system and foster kids. It balances the deeper moments well where they don't feel too heavy but you know they still matter. This was mostly closed door romance (nothing graphic beyond making out) so 1/5 for spice. Really recommend checking this out for a deeper-connecting romance. 4.5/5
I also hope to get more stories from this town and friend group in the future!"

"I loved it! It is an actual romance novel that has good characters and a great story. It takes you through both sides and is truly about the romance, not about the sex. Great read!"

"The story of Leah and Eli was a fun one that still had depth to it. I enjoyed the characters and how we learned about their history throughout. I had a hard time with the pacing. It felt like it was dragging at times, so it was hard for me to really get into it.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review."
"What I Liked:
1. Leah - I loved Leah. I appreciated that she came back to take care of her foster mom and clean up the house. I know that wasn’t her real mom, but it was nice of her to come back. I also loved that she stood up to Patrick because he was a dick. She was also so witty and I enjoyed her banter with Eli.

2. Eli’s family - even though they didn’t agree with Eli, they were still super supportive of him and wanted to help. I also loved how they cared for Leah and immediately welcomed her into their circle.

3. The rom-com’s - I loved the nod to all the iconic romantic comedy’s in pop culture. To be honest, I feel like the genre of rom-com has changed and we don’t get movies like that anymore.

What I Didn’t Like:
1. Eli - honestly Eli spends SO much time being hung up on Victoria that it was starting to get annoying. I love a good slow burn but I didn’t like his flip flopping. He would kiss Leah and then still say that he wants to get back together with Victoria over and over. It wasn’t fair of him to do that Leah."
"I listened to this book on audio, that may or may not have colored my opinions. I did enjoy the narrator and found the book very easy to listen to on the go.

Pros:

I love that while this is a makeover story plot that the author made some very important aspects. Having the makeover changed to the man really felt refreshing as it so often is women who feel they need to change what they look like and how they think before they can be loved. I’m also really happy that the main male character didn’t fully change himself.

The found family in this book is lovely and I hope to read more about the characters in the future. It’s one of my favorite things when an author can develop the relationships amongst a group in a way that makes you want to join in on their fun.

Cons:

I didn’t have a lot of problems with this story. I try to say something with every book for balance though so I would say that I’d like more of a solution at the end for a certain rude character. I wanted to see him get a little bit of punishment for being cruel but I understand that wasn’t the point to this story and truly not necessary to the outcome hopefully in a future story!"
"If you are a fan of romantic comedies on the page or on the big screen, you will get a kick out of this book.

After being summarily rejected by his not fiancée, Eli needs a game plan to win her back. Friends and family join together to “makeover” his rugged appearance and expose him to great rom-cons like Say Anything and Love Actually in an effort to win back the girl.

Along the way, the crew is joined by Leah who happened to overhear the disastrous proposal attempt by Eli. What starts as friendship gets a bit more complicated over time especially as Leah is dealing with her soon to be homeless status, and Eli realizes that winning back the girl may not be exactly what he wants anymore.

Thanks to NetGalley for the digital advanced reader copy!"
