When a young woman clears out her deceased grandmother’s home in rural North Carolina, she finds long-hidden secrets about a strange colony of beings in the woods in this chilling novel that reads like The Blair Witch Project meets The Andy Griffith Show. When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more—Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants…until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself. Alone in the woods with her dog, Mouse finds herself face to face with a series of impossible terrors—because sometimes the things that go bump in the night are real, and they’re looking for you. And if she doesn’t face them head on, she might not survive to tell the tale. From Hugo Award–winning author Ursula Vernon, writing as T. Kingfisher, The Twisted Ones is a gripping, terrifying tale bound to keep you up all night—from both fear and anticipation of what happens next.

"For starters I don't think I was this books intended audience. I am well aware my mind races at top speed and if asked how I got to the thought I was on, it would take a hot minute to tell you how I connected the dots. But to listen to it first hand from Mouse was a bit tedious at times albeit funny at others. On the other hand I did learn a lot about her dog.

The story was slow but full of quirky banter. The effigies quite unnerving. Mouse's thoughts and the poem were too repetitive though. Foxy felt like an old country friend. Very relatable and made the story more fun and witty.

Definitely couldn't guess the ending though I got lost. So the story built up well but the ending didn't pay off for me. For instance I thought the poem would have a huge impact on the ending but it didn’t. Just felt disconnected from the story."
"This was an interesting read. I am still processing it and I don’t know 100% how I feel about it. This wasn’t a bad book by any means. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, but I found myself almost confused as to what I was reading during certain parts of the book. It was creepy and kept you on the edge of your seat. 3/5 "
"2.5 out of 5 for me. Wasn’t scary horror in my opinion. I love a good horror book but I never got the dopamine rush I was looking for a book in the horror genre to have. Book seemed to drag on when it shouldn’t have. This book is big on folklore which I tend to love, but this book just didn’t do it for me. "
"I really enjoyed this folk horror tale. We need more stories like this! "
