"I haven't seen a film like this for a long time. The kind of films that are a bit boring at the beginning but towards the end everything is revealed with a bang. This film is the only one of the other Nolan films I've seen that I understood without any problems, and that's a bit insulting... I wish I had the capacity to understand his other films in a single viewing, but I doubt that even he could digest them on the first viewing."

"Christopher Nolan’s first film is a clever, micro-budget neo-noir. It holds together incredibly well considering it was shot in London, on film, for only $6000. The film focuses on a lonely, aspiring writer who stalks random strangers around London for “research”. He ends up following a thief that takes him under his wing. The film shows many of the hallmarks of Nolan’s other early films (Memento, Insomnia and The Prestige) including a non-linear narrative and the story being told through the first person perspective of an obsessive protagonist. The film is shot in black and white, which both evokes the noirs that inspired it and hides that they had no location budget. It’s a solid film on its own but it’s particularly interesting when viewed as the first steps of a great filmmaker. 3.5 Out of 5 Stars"
