"Just finished listening to the audiobook. To add onto my original comment this is totally unlike the movie and is really a deep commentary on a soldiers life and duty in general. It’s a little dry at times but overall a good read or listen. Knowing that the book was written in the 40s/50s it seems appropriate the topics touched on for the time and is a good parellel to the believes and values in America at the time."
"An awesome surprise. This book wasn't the trashy science fiction pulp I thought it would be, but a philosophical novel about democracy, war, and the need for a military. Written in a strange American time after the Korean war but before the much more involved Vietnam war, this book captures political opinions I haven't given much thought to before."
