She's off-limits, but he's never been good at following the rules. For the first time in her life, Emmy Ryder has no idea what she's doing. She's done everything she set out to do. She left her small hometown, went to college, and made a name for herself doing her favorite thing: riding horses. But when an injury results in an obstacle that she can't overcome, Emmy leaves behind a career, an apartment, and a boyfriend for the hometown she spent her whole life trying to escape. Luke Brooks is Meadowlark's most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. He's also the unofficial fifth member of the Ryder family. He spent his whole childhood antagonizing Emmy, the youngest of the Ryder bunch. It's been years since he's seen his best friend's little sister, but when she crosses the threshold of his bar, he can't take his eyes off her.Brooks takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of why Emmy returned to Meadowlark and what happened to put out the perpetual fire in her eyes. But first, he needs Emmy to take him up on his offer to be friends. An offer that has nothing to do with the fact that he can't stop thinking about her. At least, that's what he tells himself. As the chemistry between Emmy and Brooks heats up, it's getting more difficult for him to keep his hands off of her. Can they stay away from each other? Or will both of them get burned?

"As impossible as it seems, this was the first cowboy romance I've read, and I loved it soooooo much! It was fun and fast paced, and I loved the ranch setting and the main characters! Emmy and Luke were amazing! Emmy was a character that I could easily relate to, both as a country girl/horse rider and as someone with some sensory issues of my own. Her internal monologue was just so relatable. Luke was both protective and a bit jealous, but he also had a heart of gold, and was super sweet and patient with Emmy, making him top tier book boyfriend material! I loved the family dynamics and adored Emmy and Teddy's friendship! Small town/ranch setting, forbidden love, brother's best friend, childhood frenemies to lovers, he falls first, found family, reformed bad boy, dual POV, some pretty good spice, and ADHD representation! This book was 100% worth the read! I can't wait to check out Swift and Saddled! "
"4.5/5 ⭐️ dual pov and available on KU. This book was such a good time!! It had a lot of similarities to the Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver; lots of similar family dynamics. So, if you liked those this is a great option to get your cowboy romance fix! This book just gave me new love butterflies. The main characters are so sweet and the story line felt realistic. The conflict was also not super over dramatized and there was no 3rd act breakup. It’s also a super quick read so it’s a great option between heavier reads! It’s just so cute! It has a few spicy scenes but a was pretty tame 1-1.5/5 for spice. "
"After a freak accident while riding a horse, Clementine is afraid to get back on a horse and continue her career as a barrel racer. She heads back to her small town in Wyoming to see if she can find the answers she needs to continue with life. Who’d guess what she found instead? Bad boy, cowboy, Luke Brooks. He helps shake her from her fears and get back on the horse metaphorically and physically.
I wanted to like this book. I saw people raving about it but I wanted more from it! It was cute and sweet but also missing so much.
I wanted the book to focus more on Emmy’s recovery and facing her fears but it was pushed to the back burner when Luke Brooks came around. The enemies to lovers didn’t really hit and it wasn’t a slow burn. The redeeming trope was the best friends little sister but that was still a subplot at the very end!"
"** SPOILERS **
I read nothing about this book going into it, I’d just seen good reviews and say “yep that’s good enough for me”. However it definitely didn’t disappoint. It was predictable a little, best friends brother-best friends sister trope but it was a little different than the rest. Luke was helping Emmy get through a riding accident that later you find out was how her mother had passed. Therefore it made so much sense why it was such a mental blocker for her. And then Luke, playboy, womanizer, Luke helped Emmy in a way she’d never been helped before and became something Emmy never knew she needed. I absolutely adore them together and it was such a sweet story. If you dont want really spicy, I think this was good for that. (but then again i read a lot of books with sm*t so i didnt see this as very spicy) The only thing I’d hated was Emmy keeping Luke and her from her family. Luke had really wanted to tell them because he was apart of them, and when Emmy said she needed more time I had the “girl” coming out of my mouth back to back."
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This book was just what I needed - a soft romance that isn’t crazy intense and doesn’t require a lot of brain energy to get through. It was predictable and cheesy at times, but in a way similar to your favorite romance movie from years ago that you watch when you need a pick me up (cough cough, Sweet Home Alabama for Emmy).
This is definitely a series that, I am surprised to say, I will continue reading! Contemporary books aren’t usually my thing, but after the last fantasy novel I read, I just need some chill vibes and cute romance that serves to cleanse my palate. I’m excited to see what happens with Wes and Ada, but Gus and Teddy are going to have a chokehold over me until November 2024."
