In the first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series, Harry Dresden’s investigation of a grisly double murder pulls him into the darkest depths of magical Chicago… As a professional wizard, Harry Dresden knows firsthand that the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things—and most of them don’t play well with humans. And those that do enjoy playing with humans far too much. He also knows he’s the best at what he does. Technically, he’s the only at what he does. But even though Harry is the only game in town, business—to put it mildly—stinks. So when the Chicago P.D. bring him in to consult on a double homicide committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name... “A great series—fast-paced, vividly realized and with a hero/narrator who’s excellent company.”—Cinescape

"Harry Dresden is a wizard/private investigator who gets called in by Chicago PD to help solve a double homicide believed to be committed using magic. I love a good genre crossover and fantasy/mystery blend is a personal fav of mine. This took me some time to get into and I’m not entirely sure I was ever fully invested but from what I hear the series just keeps getting better and better. This was entertaining enough for me to continue."
"This was a great read! It was fun and full of mystery as well as all the paranormal creatures I love to read about, who could ask for more.
Harry is a Wizard who works by contract on special cases with the police. He's brought in to help get to the bottom of what would be needed to cause a spell strong enough to kill its victims in such a horrible fashion. I mean really, whoever is doing the killing is one twisted soul. While he's trying to help out he runs into several obstacles, which are going to make it hard for him to earn his pay check this month. Vampires, Faeries, mob bosses and the white wizard council all make for some pretty interesting characters.
I definetly recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series."
"The book was really enjoyable! There was an eclectic cast of characters, a good plot and a killer twist! "

"I couldn't read past this first book. The author writes like a "nice guy" who thinks strong female characters who aren't there to only look pretty and be sex objects will outshine and upstage the male main character. Butcher, your character isn't old fashioned, he's just a chauvinist. Figure out how to write women without reducing them to simpering fools or holes for your pleasure and fantasies. "
