After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves―her dragons, her family, her home, and him. Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything. They need an army. They need power. They need magic. And they need the one thing only Violet can find―the truth. But a storm is coming...and not everyone can survive its wrath. The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order. Reading Order: Book #1 Fourth Wing Book #2 Iron Flame Book #3 Onyx Storm

"As if I wasn’t already obsessed with this world, then I read this. There is so much to unpack. I almost want to start an immediate reread. More world building, more character development, more politics. I felt a full spectrum of emotions. What an intricate web Rebecca weaves. Secrets revealed but so many more questions to be answered. I can’t wait to see where she takes this series."
"This started out very slow and a massive amount of information was dumped for like the first 20 chapters. Then the story finally picks up. I honestly don’t understand how Vi and Dain can retain as much information as they do. My head was spinning. There were some entertaining moments throughout, mainly Ridoc, Tairn & Andarna. We actually got to see more of Ridoc’s mature & serious side. I guessed Violets second signet correctly in book two, I did not overthink it while everyone else was guessing outlandish powers. I was VERY relieved there was not a lot of arguing! The ending had me perplexed and confused. The real question in need answered is where is Broccoli??? "
"So I absolutely devoured Rebecca Yarros's Onyx Storm, the third book in The Empyrean series. If you thought Fourth Wing and Iron Flame were intense, buckle up, because this one is on a whole new level. From the insane action to the moments that absolutely gutted me, Yarros had me hooked the entire time.
Violet is still the badass we know and love, but this book takes her journey to a whole new place. She's not just fighting to survive anymore, she's fighting for something way bigger. And Xaden? Oh man. His character arc in this book is everything. If you're into those brooding, complex characters who always keep you guessing, Xaden will not disappoint. Dain also gets some interesting moments that might make you see him in a whole new light (and not necessarily a bad way).
The dragons totally steal the show for me. Tairn and Andarna are incredible as always, and there's this one scene near the end involving them that had me yelling at the book. I didn't think the dragon lore could get any cooler, but Yarros proved me wrong.
This book had everything I wanted: action, betrayal, some seriously shocking twists, and even a few scenes that actually made me laugh. Of course, there are also moments that will absolutely break your heart. Yarros isn't afraid to take risks, and it definitely pays off.
If you're already hooked on The Empyrean series, you're going to love Onyx Storm. And if you haven't started yet, seriously, what are you waiting for? This is fantasy at its absolute best—dragons, drama, and characters you won't be able to stop thinking about.
I honestly can't recommend this book enough.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!"
"I struggle to stay tapped into series. I much prefer a good standalone or just a two volume story. And yet, liked this installment more than the first two. Which is surprising! Why did I read it so fast? Why are there two more books I have to wait on. Ah! "
