"Magic, complicated relationships, good character development, and a hint of dark academia are all features of this book. The book switches perspectives between six different magicians who are all chosen because of their skill to be part of the Alexandria Library. I had a love/hate relationship with every single character which made them so real and human. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am currently reading the sequel. Stay tuned for that review. I would recommend to anyone who read a lot of YA fantasy growing up. 4/5"
"** 4.5/5 **
i voted for this over hosab for fantasy for the year and that should say something lol. Not really because I loved hosab but perhaps I figured everyone will voted sjm.
Okay about the book: I like that it has no filler. Having read hoeab and hosab back to back before this was A LOT. So i am so grateful that this book got right to the point.
Over all 4.5/5
Plot: 4/5
The ending: 5/5 had me shook
Characters: 4/5
Libby: my pure baby. I’ll see you soon!!
Nico: I thought I would like him more but still cool + smart
Tristan: soft baby with a hard exterior
Callum: rude bastard who is too smart but still likeable
Parisa: the queen herself. Can be unhinged and rude sometimes but you love her anyway
Reina: miss girl was kinda dull but I hope that changes
Ezra: so very ….. interesting, I did not see the end coming. when he said “ or the four who would become” my jaw was on the floor. 4??? he knew all along
Gideon: cutest little puppy
Atlas: mysterious af then boom this mf did not just do that….
Dalton: I don’t know if I like this man or not but def being mine controlled
Ships:
Nico/Gideon - pls tell me this isn’t in my head.
Tristan/Libby - I loved loved their dynamic, I hope there is more
Nico/Libby- initially I thought they were going the academic rivals to lovers way and I was here for it, but that wasn’t the case here- we shall see in paradox
Callum/Parisa: I’m sorry, I want this. If Callum is bisexual or straight of course because the enemies to lovers would serve
Tristan/Callum: I really like their dynamic and friendship (situation-ship) but idk if it’s romantic?
Dalton/Parisa: don’t hate it, don’t see the appeal either but open to mind being changed
Libby/Parisa: my crackships through and through
Nico/Parisa: I really hope they become good friends. They are both so funny and confident.
Libby/Ezra: I cannot believe that ending still. So it’s a no for me right now
Okay enough lol. I liked this a lot, on to paradox."
"Listen, this might be the best book I've read in a while. I live for the problematic and unlikeable characters. I love the plot just as much but the story relies on the character, their motivations, and their interaction with each other. This is wonderful. Besides, I love how packed with information and dialogue the pages are and how beautiful the character illustrations are. One thing that shocked me is that this book was oddly “adult-y”. If you know, you know 😉. I thought it was Y-A but I don't think it is. Still love it though 🥰."
