Lazlo even thinking for one of those days that she is a horrible person but that “she cant be bad because she’s so cute”. My god I hate it. I expected so much more of this book. Sarai please suffocate me with your moths because I agree Eril-Fane was right for killing all those babies after all the stuff him and his people had went through.31:T5f0,People thinking of reading this book should be warned of two things:

1. This book is a romantic tragedy. The last two-thirds of this book evoked only one emotion for me: dread. I think the book is grossly mis-marketed. The cheerful blue and gold cover with butterflies and the blurb text (saying the "dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around" and listing various mysteries) made me expect a lighthearted adventure story.

2. There's no resolution at the end. The last sentence is "Because this story was not over yet." The series as a whole may end up enjoyable, but the end of this book walks off a cliff.

If it weren't for those two things, I might be giving this book 5 stars. Laini Taylor did a great job of pulling me along and keeping me engaged. I liked the florid writing style, although at times the prose was a bit too purple, pulling me away from the story. The characters were vivid and distinct, their struggles believable.

The hover text for the stars on Goodreads ties my rating to how much I liked this book, and I did not like it. I acknowledge that Taylor is a master storyteller; I have never felt such prolonged, intense despair in reading a book. But I didn't pick it up for despair. I picked it up because it was marketed as a fun escape read.

I wanted to put it down. I wanted to take it outside and bury it. I kept reading, hoping that at the end there would be some satisfactory conclusion. But there was no catharsis; just a sudden stop.
