 Neither of these authors really hit the characters or romance in any of their stories. I kinda forgive it in the Illuminae series because it’s so wild, and the writing is so different that the characters reacting to crazy situations sounds par for the course

 I finished the series and thought it was alright. I liked Kristoffs Empire of the Vampire and Nevernight Chronicles far more. These series were more R than PG for what it's worth.

 They just go harder with the mate bond thing in later books, if that's what you're wondering

 I honestly loved the series and how it continued. It’s one of my favorites!
